Rijkaard Confirms Bench Role For Ronaldinho

Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard has confirmed that Ronaldinho will be used from the bench in their game against Osasuna on Sunday as he continues to work towards full fitness.

With the Brazilian forward still returning to full fitness, Rijkaard confirmed in the pre-match press conference that he would again be limited to a similar role on Sunday.

"Ronaldinho has made worked well towards recovery. We must continue at a slow pace and his return will not be a quick one. Ronnie has not participated in many games and must reach the match level," he told the gathered press.

"Everything needs time; he must play in training and come off the bench for minutes during games."

Rijkaard continued to stress that Ronaldinho would not be rushed back into a starting role as he does not want to put him into the team if he is not match fit.

"He must gain match fitness. It is normal, because he has only done recuperation work during recent times."

Barcelona have struggled to convert their superiority in games into victories throughout the season, but Rijkaard suggested he was happier if they create chances and do not take them rather than not create chances at all.

"I am never sorry to see missed chances. The important thing is to create them. We have rivals who play like Chelsea; very organized in defense and they hold us back well. We do not have to change our style of positions, but must maintain a quick movement of the ball."

Rijkaard also feels that they need to be more direct when opposition defences look disorganised, in order to take advantage of such uncertainty.

"We need a more direct game for when the rival is disorganized. We can improve this while still keeping our normal shape. It is not necessary to change the style of play, only to pay more attention to our opponents."

Finally, Rijkaard was asked about his side's chances of closing the nine-point gap to Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, to which he responded in typical fashion.

"It is no use to pay attention to Madrid," he concluded.
